Donald Trump's Framework of Consequences and Incentives

Donald Trump's insatiable desire for retribution has rapidly morphed into a methodical framework. Over the year since his election, the president's fury and caprices have taken on the guise of administrative measures in ways comparable to earlier repressive systems. Government personnel who do not cooperate are immediately dismissed and succeeded by devotees. Critical figures who challenge him face legal action, trial and penalties. Adversaries have been categorized under presidential orders as “unpatriotic”, “opposed to religious values” and “against free markets”, and menaced with criminal charges as “extremists”.

Federal Agencies Restructured

Each instance involving prosecution of political opponents and protection for his allies displays its own particular characteristics. However, notwithstanding their individual form, they embody manifestations of what has arisen as a systematic method. Such events are far from coincidental. The administration's removal of federal attorneys and FBI agents, alongside his placement of devotees in high-level posts, started rapidly, promptly took on a regularity, and has now been shaped into a system. Federal prosecutors and the FBI have been remade into ideological agencies under Trump's direct direction to execute his directives. Wrongdoing has been turned into normal. It constitutes the retribution system.

Management is more concerned with punishing the leader's alleged opponents than they are with safeguarding our national security.

Within the Apparatus

The beginnings of this mechanism has been revealed in the legal complaint of several ex- senior FBI officials filed in late summer in the judicial system in Washington against agency head a senior appointee and attorney general Pam Bondi for illegal termination in “a campaign of revenge against them for what administration figures judged to be a refusal to demonstrate adequate allegiance”. According to the filing that one official, the previous interim leader, describes a conversation in which Patel “publicly confessed the impropriety of his actions”.

Driscoll had attempted to protect FBI agents from being dismissed, the complaint states. He told him that “White House figures” – interpreted by the official to be the presidential administration and justice department – had directed him to remove anyone who they considered as having worked on a law enforcement case against him. The document continues: “The director clarified that he had to dismiss the people his superiors told him to dismiss, because his chance to keep his own role was contingent on the dismissal of the personnel who handled cases involving the chief executive. He noted that there was no option he or Driscoll could do to halt these or any other terminations, because ‘the bureau sought to incarcerate the President in prison and he recalls it clearly.’” After he informed the director he was disregarding the bureau's own policies, the director allegedly said “he recognized that and he knew the nature of the immediate dismissals were likely unlawful”.

Broad Impact

After Patel's reported admission to him, the justice department and the FBI have been gutted and redirected for Trump's system of punishment. Six of the agency's top officials were dismissed or forced out in the initial period of the government. About 4,500 legal professionals at the justice department have taken a “voluntary departure plan”. No fewer than seven DoJ lawyers, among them those in the New York office, stepped down in dissent over what they considered as partisan influence in withdrawing the corruption case against the city leader, a political figure, in as a trade for his collaboration with his federal agency detentions of migrants. The anti-corruption unit of the justice department, which handles ethical violations, has been reduced to two attorneys. The civil rights division has been decimated: seventy percent of its staff has resigned. One-third of top officials at the department have quit. The unit implementing ecological regulations has experienced the exit of a majority its management.

Favors and Penalties

Concerning the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the federal division, she, stepped down in objection against what she characterized as the “trade-off”. The border official, Trump's “border czar,” was present as the agent with the mayor on Fox News to state: “Should he fail to deliver, I'll reappear in the city.”. Additionally, another figure, formerly the senior DoJ official and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the arrangement, was awarded an judicial position, a possible pathway to the judicial branch.

Trump's protection for wrongdoings perpetrated while in power, awarded by the extraordinary judgment of the Republican majority on the judicial body, thus blocking his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and safeguarding his public standing for the presidential race, is the cornerstone on which he stands to shield his loyalists. Under these circumstances, he has been empowered to enable corruption. The consequence of the supreme court decision infuses his government and the Republican Party thoroughly. The legal case has escalated. As a past leader's legal adviser the figure commented about the Watergate
